Food and family are at the heart of life for Joe Formisano, founder of DeliVita. Inspired by his Italian heritage and a love of cooking, Joe was spurred to create a wood-fired oven. He had experienced the frustration of using inefficient brick ovens that took several hours to heat up, and clay ovens that cracked and failed in the UK climate.
“My aim was to design an outdoor cooking solution, optimized for ultimate ease of use while delivering authentic flavour,” says Joe. “I believe we’ve achieved exactly that. It’s a versatile product oozing with style and kerb appeal, while being simple to operate and a pleasure to use.”
At only 30 kg these ovens are portable, and designed to withstand the UK climate; their sleek looks are suited to a bespoke outdoor kitchen, while fans of “glamping” can use them to stylishly replace the traditional barbeque. It takes only 25 minutes to reach 450 degrees Celsius and can go up to 600 degrees. It can cook the perfect wood-fired pizza in just 90 seconds but is also suitable for roasting, baking and smoking, making it a favourite among professional chefs. It has even inspired its own recipe book: Fired Up – Wood Oven Cooking, which features dishes such as Chateaubriand and smoked slow-cooked salmon.
Having perfected the oven design, Joe wanted to offer the ultimate in “pizza-ease”. To this end DeliVita now produces a range of high-quality, authentic vegan and organic pizza doughs. “Delivered nationwide, these convenient little boxes of loveliness guarantee restaurant-quality pizza,” says Joe, “ready to delight family and guests.”DeliVita has become a hit not only at home but also at summer festivals, special events and shows such the BBC’s Countryfile Live, for which DeliVita created a pop-up 150-seat restaurant with its ovens stationed in converted horseboxes, smartcars and tricycles. For these “wood-fired feasts”, the DeliVita team cooked 30,000 pizzas last year at events, corporate launches and private parties.
This year DeliVita has launched in 12 new countries and is franchising its catering business. Having exhibited recently for the first time in the US, the DeliVita oven achieved a Vesta Finalist Award for Design and Innovation. It certainly seems this little oven is making big waves in the outdoor cooking arena.
