Set in the Indian Ocean idyll of the Maldives, LUX* North Malé Atoll sets new standards in luxury
Within months of opening in February 2019, LUX* North Malé Atoll had been listed on Condé Nast Traveler’s Hot List 2019 as one of the best and most extraordinary new hotels in the world. The resort is unlike any other in the Maldives, combining LUX*’s signature style of playful luxury with a distinctive design of its own.
“You won’t see anything like this in the Maldives,” says Mona Sedghi, PR and Communications Manager for the brand’s resorts in the Maldives. With 67 dazzling, white, double-storey penthouse villas, each boasting its own pool and private rooftop terrace, the resort offers next-level luxury in this tropical destination famed for its beaches, lagoons and extensive reefs.
LUX* North Malé Atoll provides all the facilities and services that one would expect from a luxury resort, including sparkling pools, indulgent spa treatments, a fun-packed kids club and watersports. Guests can also explore the powder-white beaches and a colourful house reef. There is an emphasis on space, with villas starting at 350 square metres and two triple-storey LUX* Retreats that each spread over 1,000 square metres, ideal for families or groups of friends. The resort’s Overwater retreat also has its own private dock for yachts, while the Beach Retreat boasts nearly 1,000 square metres of private beach.
Set in the heart of the Maldives, the surroundings are also spectacular, with dolphins leaping at the end of the jetty and turtles visiting the lagoon among colourful fish and corals. But Mona explains that what really makes a stay at the resort special is the warmth of the team and the guest experience customized to the very last detail. “Our vision is that we ‘make each moment matter’,” she says. “Our purpose is to help people celebrate life and enjoy good times together. When they are with us, life is truly a holiday!”
Guests are assigned their own “island host” on arrival at the resort. This host provides a close point of contact throughout their stay and can arrange everything from private rooftop movie screenings to a private sandbank lunch. “Everything is bespoke, based on what the guest wants or needs,” says Mona. “Privacy is a priority. The unique rooftops provide the perfect place to relax and enjoy panoramic views and the resort’s array of services. A private chef can also be booked to serve up intimate rooftop dining at any point of time.”
The resort prides itself on its culinary offerings. The signature restaurant INTI offers impressive Peruvian-Japanese cuisine; Beach Rouge offers a beach bar atmosphere with a resident DJ, Mediterranean cuisine and a popular steakhouse menu; Glow Restaurant offers global flavours, overlooking breath-taking sunsets; while Barium is a secluded dining venue for private dinners with friends and family.
Unexpected, playful touches run throughout the resort. Guests can call anywhere in the world for free in the classic “phone home” booth, or make a wish and hang it in the Tree of Wishes to take the chance to win a free stay. Every day, guests can also look for a message in a bottle, hidden around the island. Tucked inside are scrolls promising a surprise treat for the lucky finders.
“We provide the highest possible standard of luxury but not always in the expected way,” says Mona. This lighthearted approach combined with superb, personalized service enables guests to truly relax and savour every moment of their stay.
