Park Hotel Vitznau

“We have found that the secret to a great experience is less,” says Nadine Stämpfli, Executive Assistant Manager of Park Hotel, Vitznau in Switzerland. “Less, but done better. For instance, during the hotel’s recent renovation, the number of suites was reduced from 120 to 47 – which meant more space for our guests. The opening of our flagship restaurant has been condensed to only the evening meal. Now the culinary team can concentrate on making dinner extra special. To give the best service possible, we are willing to make the right sacrifices.”

It is this attention to detail that has seen the hotel win the 2018 Leading Hotels of the World Leadership Award. “More than 400 of the world’s greatest hotels were entered,” says Nadine. “The award is not won by pampering a single judge; instead the deciding factor is the experience of leading club members. To be chosen by those who visit us is wonderful.”

Park Hotel has a wide selection of gastronomic delights. “We have three internationally renowned restaurants,” says Nadine. “Making the choice of where to dine is one of life’s most pleasurable difficulties. Focus, headed by Patrick Mahler, for instance, was this year awarded 17 Gault Millau points out of a possible 20. Using both local and international ingredients, the gourmet cuisine they create is astounding.” Park Hotel boasts a wine collection to match its culinary experience. “We have six themed wine cellars,” says Nadine. “From ‘Old World’ to ‘Champagne’ to ‘Rarities’. Our team of sommeliers track down the finest wines from all around the world. They have created a collection of over 32,000 bottles with a combined value of 26 million Swiss francs. Some of the bottles are more than 200 years old – guests can taste a part of history.”

But it is the scenery that sets Park Hotel apart. “My favourite way to spend the day is at the spa,” says Nadine. “To experience such relaxing treatments while looking out over Lake Lucerne, it is a beautiful feeling. The location is difficult to describe without sounding delirious; with cascading mountains and crystal waters this lake has a thousand views. You don’t spend time here, you invest it.”
